Poker Profiles: Doyle Brunson

Over 50 years of playing Poker professionally is evident in Doyle Brunson's eyes. His might at the Poker table has been tried and tested through the years but it never faltered. He may be old and grey now but his grace at gambling is still there. People who have been in love with Poker would not understand its history of greatness in America if they have not stumbled upon Doyle's name. He who is one of the pillars of the game. He who has countless titles attached in his name. He who has numerous awards tucked neatly under his belt. He who has cashed in a wealth out of playing.

Doyle Brunson is a Texan. He was born on August 10, 1933 in Fisher County. When he was younger, he competed as an athlete in both Basketball and Track and Field. Unfortunately, a knee injury paralyzed his booming career almost instantly. When his mind was taken off Athletics, he focused it on Education, which is not at all a bad choice. For a lot of people, especially those who pay high regard to education, Doyle's master's degree in Administrative Education remains to be his best achievement so far. Sadly, he never got an opportunity because another industry, Poker, took him off it.

During Doyle's first day of work at a business machine store, he was invited to sit-up for a seven card stud game. After emerging from it with an amount equaled to his monthly salary, he decided that sales is not his thing; gambling is. After having a successful take at Texan casinos, Doyle and a friend traveled to other cities in search for high stake games that would eventually pepper his already colorful career.

Six years after his first Poker game, Doyle found the opportunity to finally take on Las Vegas, where he reigned in both tournament wins and cash ins. To date, Doyle accounts for ten World Series of Poker bracelets, two of which are earned on back-to-back Main Event championships. He also has numerous World Poker Tour titles and several titles more from different events. Poker also made Doyle more than $5 million richer. It fed his purse the same way it fed his heart. Poker kept Doyle young because it made him happy. It consistently put his mind at work.

In 1978, Doyle decided to further his Poker career by releasing a book titled Super/System. He recounted what it takes to win at a game or two. Doyle also shared how he made his first millions by playing Poker. That blockbuster book was followed by Poker Wisdom of a Champion, Super System II, Online Poker: Your Guide to Playing Online Poker Safely & Winning Money, My 50 Most Memorable Hands, and According to Doyle.

Doyle is probably not through tutoring professional Poker players how to act like one. In fact, he always has one-on-one sessions to attend to with none other than his own children, Todd and Pamela.
